My herd and I had quite a scare recently! We were enjoying a beautiful October day on the prairie, just munching on our favorite grasses. Off in the distance, I heard the howling of a pack of hungry, scary coyotes. All of the males in our herd went into high alert because we had several young bison with us. With each passing minute, we heard the predators move in closer to our frightened group. Being the prey on the wide open prairie can be very stressful. We rounded up and thundered out of the area as fast as we could. Unfortunately, one of the elders of our herd, Ben, couldn’t keep up with our fast pace. He became the meal for the pack of coyotes. We are saddened that Ben is gone but happy to have escaped the pack with only one loss.
